2017 was a year marked with a variety of exciting new projects and challenges. I enjoyed photographing some fun events like Grub n' Groove and the Great Forest Park Balloon Glow as well as continuing to build my base of Real Estate photography clients. I also had the great pleasure of working on some awesome larger ongoing projects for a handful of new clients. The following highlights those particular efforts in 2017.
CityArchRiver Arch Grounds Lighting Design
My first project of 2017 was capturing the striking and innovative new Gateway Arch grounds lighting design for Randy Burkett Lighting Design. The firm completed several diverse new lighting installations stretching from the I-70 overpass south of the Arch to the North Gateway (formerly the Arch parking garage) and beneath the Washington Avenue overpass alongside Laclede's Landing.
I was really honored when the Riverfront Times wanted to run a feature on my images and backstory about my involvment with the project which you can read here.
"Butterflies" Installation, Mock-up and Lighting
Butterflies is a 31-foot wide, 15-foot high sculpture by Spanish artist Manolo Valdes which was brought overseas by ship by the Gateway Foundation and installed at the St. Louis Public Library. I was commissioned by Randy Burkett Lighting Design to capture it's arrival in downtown St. Louis, it's installation and the lighting mock-up process.
Cortex Innovation Community
The Cortex Innovation Community is a vibrant 200-acre innovation hub and technology district in St. Louis’ historic Central West End. Randy Burkett Lighting Design came-up with a variety of innovative concepts including illuminated metal grid walkways, a suspended roadway lighting system, and projectors fitted with "research-inspired patterns" for display on various walkways.
Gateway Arch Park Foundation Website
I was commissioned by 5BYFIVE Creative to shoot the new imagery for the relaunch of Gateway Arch Park's new website. Now nearing it's completion, the project's purpose is to tie-together the Gateway Arch to downtown, Laclede's Landing, the Old Courthouse, and Keiner Plaza. We anchored the shoot around three iconic statues around downtown: Dred Scott at the Old Courthouse, "The Runner" at Keiner Plaza, and Lewis and Clark on the riverfront.
Saint Louis Symphony
Saint Louis Symphony is in the process of celebrating it's 50th year at the gorgeous historic Powell Hall. They wanted to get together a collection of images of the venue from the lobby to the stage, to behind-the-scenes. We spent a day getting some amazing access; even including exploring the catwalks high-above the gorgeous dome atop the ceiling!
Veterans Honor Park
I photographed Veteran's Honor Park for five joint entities who collectively designed, illuminated, engineered and constructed this gorgeous park in Chesterfield, MO. Each client naturally wished to highlight their specific work on the project so various angles and aspects, macro and micro were captured. Wind and flags do not always cooperate (especially in the evening), so this one took a bit of patience and multiple visits to the Chesterfiled site in order to complete.
Kiener Plaza, downtown St. Louis
In 2017 Kiener Plaza in downtown St. Louis took-on an entirely new design, look and feel. The plaza was opened-up to be more functional, inviting and safe, and the lighting design implemented by the talented folks at Randy Burkett Lighting Design was a huge part of that. Gorgeous new LED fixtures line its perimeter and a line of powerful focused LED lights placed atop St. Louis's tallest building illuminate the center grass from nearly 600 feet above. Additionally focused LED lighting fixtures also provide a safely-lit environment for the children's playground inside the Plaza, just to name a few aspects.
